Stamford Schools

Stamford offers residents a diverse selection of public and private school choices. Stamford is home to many of the best public and independent schools in Connecticut, offering accredited programs for all ages from pre-kindergarten through high school. Stamford also home of the University of Connecticut, Stamford campus, located in downtown Stamford.

As Connecticut’s second largest city with a population of over 135,000 residents, the public school system has an enrollment of over 16,000 students. The Stamford Public School district has 21 total schools, which includes 13 elementary schools (grades K-5), 5 middle schools (grades 6-8), and 3 high schools (grades 9-12). Within the Stamford Public School system there are 7 public magnet schools, including 5 elementary schools 3 middle schools and 1 high school. There are also public special needs schools and alternative programs available.

Stamford’s public schools also offers various renowned certification programs, such as the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, offered at four schools at all grade levels; the UCONN Early College Experience (ECE), offered at all three high schools; and the Agriscience Program at Westhill High School. Stamford’s public high schools are ranked #1 in the state in the total number of Advanced Placement (AP) courses offered.
